Philip Coatesworth, the founder and managing director of pyd, is an RYA/MCA Yachtmaster with over 20 years experience in senior management and 80,000 nautical miles as Skipper on vessels from 35 to 120 feet. Jan Younger has been with pyd since the beginning and handles all of the crew selection, vetting and logistics. Her knack of finding the right crew from several hundred candidates is a vital part of our operation. Bill King, a former RAF Squadron Leader, is pyd’s newest Director. He is a commercially endorsed RYA/MCA Yachtmaster and Cruising Instructor with extensive sailing experience Worldwide and a strong background in training and administration. The pyd delivery crews on the water include over thirty very experienced skippers who have varying backgrounds and skills, but who have in common a serious and highly competent approach to their profession. Among them are the RYA Yachtmaster of the Year 2004, a RCC Gold Medal winner, several previous Clipper Challenge skippers, shipwrights, RYA Yachtmaster Instructors, racing specialists and MCA Masters with experience of 150ft+ megayachts. Together, they ensure that we have the right Skipper, whatever the requirement. Regardless of prior experience, every skipper is assessed on a passage by a Director or a long serving group member before being invited to join pyd. This approach means that we can ensure consistency and that standards are maintained. The best skippers in the industry are ably supported by the best crews. All Mates are qualified to minimum RYA Yachtmaster and every single crew member is thoroughly vetted before they take their place aboard a pyd boat. |
