With numerous clients competing in the ARC every year pyd has made a point of being in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria every November for as long as we can remember. In fact our ARC connections go back even further with Phil Coatesworth having competed in 1989 – the last rally to finish in Barbados – and Mark Matthews in 2007; both in their own boats.
This year is the 25th running of the event and more pyd clients and friends were in evidence than ever. So many in fact that we had to have two separate dinner outings to our favourite tapas restaurant, Casa Galicia. On the second occasion we were very pleased to have the famed US yachtsman Steve Dashew and his wife Linda as honoured guests. Their boat ‘Windsong’ is the only motorboat in the rally and with a steady cruise at 11.3 knots, almost whatever the conditions, and a range of 6,000nm you can see why they’ve made the switch.
